This will be my first journal since I normally don't write down all my thoughts.
I have a question for everyone in the furry fandom. How did you come up with your fursona? I've been watching all things furry since my early days chatting on Yiffstar when the chatrooms were relatively new. But the one thing I've never actually done is fleshed out a fursona! Most of what I see on the internet is people picking there favorite animal(or animals), favorite color(or colors) and shake 'n' bake! It seems so simple but is that all there really is to it? Furthermore, is that the best way to show who you are? Is a 7 foot tall blue dragon/fox/tiger with green stripes two tails and big feathery wings the best way to show your personality, or are you just picking what may look pretty?
I believe that you need to really look deep down into yourself and ask questions about who you are and be honest. If you don't like being around allot of people then you're probably not a pack animal. If you like warm sunny days then you're probably not a cold region animal. If you're afraid of hights then you're probably not a bird. If you can do physical labor all day and enjoy it you might be an ox or horse. If you enjoy staying out all night you might be a bat or any other nocturnal creature. Be honest with yourself and you can find an animal that could best represent you and really make you stand out in the crowd!
After you chose what animal best represents you, what do you do next? This is were you can really polish your fursona to show who you are. Yes, this is were you decide your colors, accessories, biped or quadruped and other such things but again aren't you trying to show who you are? I feel the best way to do this is to put a bit of yourself into the design of your fursona. Do you have a scar somewhere noticeable? Do you have a white warlock(white streak in your hair)? Are you normally hunched over? Do you wear big thick glasses or tiny ones? This way you can set your fursona apart by making it more like you and not a character you role play as.
With all that you would now have a furry version of you! How awesome is that!? But I still haven't gone through all those steps myself. So let me go through my own steps and see what I am.
A little description about myself:
I am pretty lazy I won't lie.
I'm content with staying at home most of the time playing video games.
When I do go out I love to socialize with people I can talk nerdy stuff with.
I really hate hot and humid climates and I also avoid staying in the sun to long(I hate sunburns)
I love eating and cooking.
I love collecting little trinkets wherever I go, if I find a Gacha Capsule Machine somewhere with something cool in it I must have some!.
I can be argumentative at times and hates to be proven wrong
I usually keep to myself when I'm in public places or gatherings until I warm up to everyone there.
With those few things I can possibly see Raven(or crow), Bear(maybe polar), Lizard of some kind(cold bloodedness would help in hot climates), Mole, and Bat. Does any of those sound close? Maybe, but those are better then saying I'm like a ferocious dragon that eats a monthly virgin(the stereotype I know, but at least they like to collect shiny things!)
Now to make it more like me physically. My fursona would have to be chubby since I am overweight and wearing glasses. I usually wear a baseball hat backwards(or forwards depending on my mood) with my hair pulled back into a ponytail. I never wear shorts and usually a t-shirt that points out my nerdyness.
I think that so far that all sounds good! So what does everyone else think about my process? Possibly a way that some furries should go when it comes to creating a fursona? We might have a more diverse furry community if everyone does something close to this but hey, thats just what I think.
Wow that was a long journal, I might have to get my thoughts out more often.
